Advancing sustainability at Stanford

Stanford has announced today that we are building a new solar plant to power our campus and reduce Stanford's carbon footprint. The new plant, combined with our existing solar generating systems, will allow the university to complete its transition to 100 percent renewable electricity by 2021.

On the Education Department’s proposed Title IX rules

As you may have read, the U.S. Department of Education has issued proposed new rules for colleges and universities to use in managing Title IX cases. We welcome the opportunity to provide input to the federal government on the proposed new rules. And we fully intend to continue our efforts to reject sexual violence in our community, to support survivors, to hold perpetrators accountable and to have fair adjudication processes.

Our commitment to gender identity and expression

On Sunday the New York Times published an article regarding a possibility that the federal definition of gender will be limited to a biological, immutable condition established at birth. We want you to know that no matter what happens at the federal level, the university will not waver from its own commitment to value people of all genders, gender identities and gender expressions.

Reflecting on Tuesday’s White Plaza events

At Stanford we believe that diversity of individual viewpoints and experiences makes us a stronger community. In such a community of diverse, passionate thinkers, conflicts of viewpoint are inevitable. On Tuesday this week, as you may have read, a number of students became involved in a set of altercations on White Plaza. Without pre-judging those events or the individuals involved, we would like to address the events from a community perspective.

Preparing for our next climate survey
